Imagining Activist Archives
The Story Circle Workshop
Registration at: https://sweapevent.com/activistarchives
This participatory workshop brings together activists to explore how archives and documentation could support activist work, memory, and knowledge sharing.
The session is part of the Master’s thesis of the facilitator, which investigates how activist archives can be developed in ways that reflect the needs, experiences, and knowledge of the communities they serve. The findings from the workshop will contribute to my empirical research and inform the development of principles for establishing power-critical and participatory activist archives. As a participant, you will be a co-creator of knowledge and can freely decide if and how you will be apart of the thesis.
The workshop uses the story circle method, a facilitated storytelling format in which participants share short personal stories in response to prompts. Through these stories, participants reflect on their experiences with memory, documentation, and activism. The aim is to collectively explore what an archive for activism could look like and how it could support movements in the future.
The workshop is designed as a respectful and collaborative space for exchange. Participation is voluntary, and participants may choose how much they wish to share. The session also includes a creative exercise where participants collaboratively imagine and visually design possible forms of activist archives.
